Series: Time For a Better You

IFM Series on A Better You Wellness, recovery experts who exist to heal the body. ...

We all want to feel better than we do, we just don’t know how to make that happen.

Let me paint a picture for you. Alarm goes off, you roll out of bed and you’re sore and tired all over, stumbling into the bathroom where you look in the mirror and see a haggard being staring back at you. Sound familiar?

Most people experience this every day, and have just accepted it as part of life, getting older and other ways of rationalizing, but more than likely, you and your body need a recovery day in the worst way. Who has the time for that?

“Growth happens in the recovery, not in the tearing down.”A Better You Wellness, located in Westfield, is a business that was created exclusively to make people feel better. In fact, co-owner John Miles said, “We want people to understand that they don’t have to feel mentally and physically drained every day of their lives, and that there are ways to help them get back to 100%.”

ABY as they say, opened their doors in June of 2016 and was founded by a group of 5 friends. The group includes a husband and wife (Helen Lakhter and Konnie Komarovsky), two brothers (John and Jared Miles), and a long time friend (Tyler Williams). In finding ways to make themselves feel better, they realized that very few people take any time our of their busy lives to focus on recovery. Including me.

I came across ABY on Instagram and knew I had to check this place out. (Side note: they are a must follow. Seriously, their Instagram Stories are always funny. @abywellness) They recently brought a mascot in the office, but you’ll have to follow them to see.

A Better You offers an array of the latest and greatest high-tech recovery methods, in an atmosphere that is clean, comfortable, and slightly luxurious. I feel like I’m walking into the year 2030 when I step in the door. Their services include:

Cryotherapy is a 2-3 minute session in a CryoSauna with temperatures as low as -240 degress. For all of you space nerds out there, that’s that temperature of the “dark side of the moon.” Cryotherapy accelerates muscle recovery, reduces pains and inflammation, and even improves the quality of your sleep. Tony Robbins swears by this.

Float Therapy

Float therapy is a 60 to 90 minute session in a float pod that is truly out of this world. It allows you to completely disconnect from mental and physical stress of everyday life by totally eliminating all outside influences. This one will blow your mind.

Local Cryotherapy

Local Cryotherapy targets specific pain areas, problematic skin conditions, and even reduces pain from headaches and migraines using a cold stream of nitrogen vapor for 5-8 minutes. According to Konnie, 5 minutes of this is equivalent to an hour and a half of icing the old fashioned way. Technology is great isn’t it?

Infrared Sauna

The Infrared Sauna increases your circulation, eases tension, and relaxes your muscles during a 30 to 45 minute session. Where your typical sauna is just a hot room, the infrared sauna uses a gentler heat from the full spectrum of infrared light. This sounds complex, but it makes for a much more comfortable experience.

Cryofacial treatment helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines, decrease pore size, and stimulate collagen production in 10-12 minutes using a controlled beam of vaporized liquid nitrogen on the face, scalp, and neck.

Normatec is a 30 to 60 minute session with a compression system which includes leg, arm, and hip attachments. The attachments use air to massage your limbs, mobilize fluid, and speed your recovery.

Over the next month, I will be experiencing each of these futuristic feel good methods, and sharing my experiences. As always, there is something in it for IFM readers as well! A Better You Wellness wants you and a friend to experience Cryotherapy, on them.
